“Walk”

From the Motherland to boats,

To brutality whipped and then thrown,

Being three-fifths addressed,

To our rights being suppressed…

Walk like you have 3,000 ancestors behind you.

We must embrace our roots,

And walk on this path,

That was crawled, ran, and kicked through,

So that we can enjoy the aftermath…

Walk like you have 3,000 ancestors behind you.

To not live to our fullest potential,

Is almost a slap in the face,

To those who didn’t have what we have,

And fought for our race…

Walk like you have 3,000 ancestors behind you.

Turnaround and see the legacy,

They were the ones who turned on the light,

We are our ancestors wildest dreams,

But only a result of their fight.

Walk with pride cause’ you have 3,000 ancestors behind you,

Just know they’re rooting for you loud,

now we must do for next the generation,

Fight for their dreams and make them proud.

We are not prisoners of our past,

They have gone out and set us free.

Walk like you have 3,000 ancestors behind you,

Because they walked for both you and me.
